Whitchurch Local History Society

Whitchurch LHS was founded in 1976 by an enthusiastic group of local people following a visit and talk by Joe Bettey who at the time was encouraging local communities to set up groups to investigate and record the history of their areas and to develop community involvement through meetings, talks and activities.

Over the years the LHS has had small groups who have researched local subjects such as the village’s farms, stone buildings, wells and families, and a number of books have been published.
During the pandemic, with normal activities suspended, we kept members involved with the production of a regular newsletter featuring items they submitted and topics from the society’s archives.

Meetings are held at 7:30pm on the fourth Friday of the month.  Visitors are welcome for £4.

Volumes of Memories can be bought from the society for £5.
We are currently considering the publication of an updated version of the History of Whitchurch which is out-of-print.
